Combining Marijuana and Alcohol: Understanding the 'Twisted' Experience

Tuesday, March 21, 2023 | By: Stoney

The mixing of alcohol and marijuana is a topic of interest due to their widespread usage across the globe. The practice, known as "crossfading" or "getting twisted," can induce a range of reactions that are influenced by various factors, such as the order and method of consumption.

While the combination can produce a pleasurable high, it is essential to exercise caution while consuming it, as negative effects like "greening out" or "spinning out" may arise and transform an enjoyable evening into an unpleasant one.

It is worth mentioning that the fusion of alcohol and marijuana can elicit varying responses among individuals, emphasizing the importance of responsible consumption and being aware of one's limitations.

Alcohol Before Weed

Consuming alcohol before using marijuana can enhance the effects of marijuana. This is due to the fact that alcohol increases the absorption of THC, the primary psychoactive component of marijuana. While this may not be an issue for experienced users, those who are sensitive to marijuana or lack experience with it should avoid the combination altogether. If it cannot be avoided, it's best to proceed slowly and pay close attention to your body's reactions.

The stronger high that results from this combination may be pleasant for some, but it can also cause adverse effects such as "greening out." This refers to an array of physical symptoms that can occur due to an intense high.

Symptoms of "greening out" may include sweating, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

Weed Before Alcohol

Consuming marijuana before drinking alcohol can reduce the effects of alcohol, leading to a higher risk of becoming excessively intoxicated even though you may not feel the full effects.

It's crucial to keep track of the amount of alcohol consumed if one decides to use marijuana before drinking. To ensure safety, it's recommended to assume that you have consumed more alcohol than you feel or drink less alcohol than you typically would without the influence of marijuana.

Based on personal experience, I've found that I tend to enjoy combining alcohol and weed more when I consume alcohol first and then smoke weed. This order of ingestion provides a feeling of looseness from the alcohol and deep thought from the weed, resulting in some pretty wild conversations.

In conclusion,

There are numerous factors to consider when combining weed and alcohol, apart from the order of consumption. These include your personal tolerance to each substance, the type and potency of alcohol, the method of consumption, the time lapse between taking each substance, and the use of other substances like tobacco or caffeine.

The best way to stay safe is to avoid mixing weed and alcohol altogether. However, if you choose to do so, it's advisable to start slowly and keep track of your consumption of each substance. Keeping a note on your phone might be useful.

It's important to note that mixing weed and alcohol can either increase or decrease the feelings of intoxication compared to using one substance alone. Furthermore, if you are taking any medications, consult with your doctor before using either weed, alcohol, or both, as they may interact with your medication and increase the likelihood of adverse effects.
